Separated at Birth?
Note: I replied to most of the comments in my last post but the stupid server at school cut me off just before I pressed Publish thus deleting everything I typed. I was so pissed off that I refused to type it all up again LoL I will reply later, sorry! The most curious thing happened to me on Sunday. My host family and I went to the 15th Daidogei Festival in Shizuoka (a festival for street performances from all around the world). It's actually meant to be some sort of a competition, however we only watched some of the street performances and bought overpriced food to munch on.
The place was extremely crowded and busy, which made me happy because I miss the hustle and bustle of a "real city". Anyway, while I was buying some icecream two girls in their early or mid twenties came up to me and asked me for a photo. I thought they meant they wanted me to take a photo of them, so I reached for the camera. The taller girl of the two shook her head and she said, "No, can I take a photo with you in it?"
This puzzled me greatly and I thought either I still couldn't understand a simple Japanese sentence after living here for 8 months or I had "GAIJIN" written across my forehead, because usually, if I don't speak, I am Japanese to everyone who sees me.
By this time the two girls realized I wasn't Japanese and apologized profusely. "We thought you were Toda Erika! Sorry!" they exclaimed.
The name sounded familiar and I paused for a second to try and recall where I had heard it from.
"Ah! Saki from ギャルサー (aka Galcir aka Gal Circle)," I replied.
"Yes yes!," the girls giggled, "You look a lot like her."
This then led into a short conversation about my exchange in Japan and about Australia but it ended with them taking a photo of me anyway because now they had established that I was a "GAIJIN" and a "GAIJIN-who-looks-like-Toda-Erika" at that.
You know I think it's karma. I remember watching Galcir and thinking what a poor thing Saki was because she was the least attractive out of large group of girls. I had also wondered how she managed to land the leading role. A few days after the series had finished some of my school friend commented that I looked like Toda Erika.
"Who's that?" I had asked.
"Saki from Galcir," they replied.
"Which one was Saki again? Japanese names are hard to remember, especially when there are like 20 girls in that series."
"The one who becomes the new leader at the end."
"Hmm... OOH SUZUKI EMI!" I cried (Emi is also a model for Seventeen and Pinky magazine. I was hoping they thought I looked like Emi haha, but I think I was being a tad bit optimistic LoL).
My friends give me a blank look, "Chigau (No)", they reply bluntly, crushing my optimism into pieces, "Emi plays the girl who was the old leader."
It took me awhile to figure out that they were talking about the lead actress. I cringed at myself for thinking she was unattractive, when she is actually kind of cute (in her latest drama's and movies). I guess it's karma for being shallow.
Toda Erika is the actress who played Mariko in Nobuta wo Produce and at the moment she is in the new Kame drama Tatta Hitotsu no Koi as Yuuko. I'm loving this drama at the moment and I don't even usually like soppy love drama's. She also plays Misa in the two Death Note movies. I guess this means I have an easy character to cosplay next time ^.~
I actually quite like Erika especially after Tatta Hitotsu no Koi and Death Note. Although I still don't think that she's the most attractive Japanese actress out there, I find her cute and charming in her own way. She's only 18 years old and she quite successful now. I want trade places with her... I'll get to be a year younger and be able to see Kame everyday at work, while she can sit around and study Japanese for me. Ahh... the life of an actress. One thing I do have over her is 11 centimeters in height (Erika is 162cm)... but she is skinnier, so I guess she still wins =( Younger, skinnier, cuter and a job Mel would take anyday... Mel is jealous.

What do you guys think? Similar? Not really? I think it's the face shape and hair. Erika has a strong jaw which is quite different to most of the Japanese idols who have a perfect little heart shaped face. I, on the other hand have such strong jaw that my face balloons after I gain a little bit of weight -_-;;
