L's name REVEALED!!!
On Friday after school Amir (our school's trusty Assistant Language Teacher aka ALT) forced me to record a listening practice for the 2nd year's English class. I had to speak in a heavy Australian accent using Aussie slang. We went to our school's studio room where I had to pick out some Australian words with help from the ever helpful wikipedia and formed a mini story.I was bludging one arvo after school when I felt the sudden urge to go to the dunny. I ran across a park to find one, but since I'm a sicko I stopped to watch two people pashing.
TRANSLATION:
I was doing nothing one afternoon after school when I felt the sudden urge to go to the toliet. I ran across a park to find one, but since I'm a digusting, weird and sick pervert I stopped to watch two people making out.
I created my mini story purely based on the fact that I thought the students needed some sort of entertainment during their tedious English classes.
On a completely different note altogether, as I was walking home after I the recording of my lovely story I stopped by at a bookshop and bought Death Note Volume 13: How to Read.

Now anyone who's a Death Note fan (and EVERYONE should be) would know that Death Note ended tragically at Volume 12. Not only that, EVERYONE should also know that the Volume 13 which came out last Friday (I know I bought it a week late... shamed am I!!!) includes interviews, character guides, blah blah and blah blah but most importantly it comes with L's name. L'S REAL NAME!!! THE NAME THAT NO ONE EXCEPT THAT SHINIGAMI REM KNOWS!!!
At first I was indecisive about wanting know L's real name or not. It's the whole "the nature of language as a construction" rings true for this situation. Did I really want to know his name when there are certain connotations which can follow the word which is his name and therefore no longer rendering him as just being L, the L I imaged throughout the the whole 12 Volumes. I considered this thought for about a second but realised that the mangaka, Tsugumi Ohba makes up the shittiest Engrish names for her characters, so in discovering L's most-likely-to-be fobby name, I would not layer any connotations to his character as it will still appear to be an alias.
My decision was made, so after staring at the front cover for those few moments of deep contemplation I opened up the manga and was face to face with the name card envelope.
I can tell you that at this point my glands were quivering with excitment... my hands were shaking as I carefully applied a pair of scissors to the "please cut here" line. Slowly the envelope gave birth to a card... it was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. I turned the card around. It was a picture of L with his real name at the top.

Did you really think I was going to show you his name? =P But of course if you really want to know you can email me a picture of you holding a sign that says, "Mel is Sexy" XD *ladidadida*
The Japanese word, "yappari!" (I knew it!) fits in perfectly here. L's name is so random. He is still the same old cake eating neurotic L to me.
It's funny I realised that my favorite film, TV show and manga all have important characters whose names don't get revealed until the last second.
Favorite Film: Kill Bill
Beatrix' name (or should I say, *beeps* name) was beeped out all through the first movie and was finally revealed at the end of the second movie. I was slightly disappointed that it was Beatrix Kiddo, but then again I didn't know what to expect so I probably would have been disappointed with everything.
Favorite TV show: Sex and the City
Of course we didn't know Big's name until the end of the very last episode when a boring old "John" flashes on Carries phone. I guess the name suits him, but once again I was disappointed because to me he was Big... not John, or Greg and David... just Big.
Even in my English Extension 2 major work for my HSC last year I wrote the name of my short stories Qing dynasty protagonist in Chinese character so the markers would not be able to read it (unless they read Chinese, which was about a 0.000001% chance of happening, since a Chinese person would most likely not become a high school English teacher and a English teacher would most likely not have ever studied Chinese before). This meant they couldn't judge my character on anything else except for her own reflections of her actions surroundings. It also gave me brownie points for having included postmodern techniques from my English Extension 1 course (ie. main reason) *sheepish smile*
I have a big thing about names though... I think names are so important. I have been writing a story which I hope to publish one day as a novel... or a manga.
Anyone want to do a [Story: Tsugumi Ohba, Drawing: Takeshi Obata] collab with me?
The only thing I can draw with fair accuracy are stick figures.
Going back on topic, it took me two years to think of the names for my characters. The time I first began to do an outline of my plot I had decided to have my female characters take on the names of Roman Goddesses with each one displaying a certain quality of that Goddess... but I'm reconsidering all over again as it all seems a bit too clichéd and ewww... -_-;;
But before I get into a passionate description of my story, I will rant about Raito instead.
This was his character guide in Volume 13. Raito is a character that makes people either love him or hate him... think he's justice or think he's a criminal. Raito is my favorite character, and although I don't agree to all of his ideals, I believe the way he used the Death Note was for the greater good.
But before I get into passionate disscusion about morality, I will say that Raito sans the the Death Note is my perfect boyfriend XD
He was born on 28th of January 1986 with a blood type of A, and although on the short side (179cm) his geniusness makes up for it. See that little hexagonal chart on the picture? That shows how good he is. And he's VERY good. L's chart was just as good as his, with the exception of the "social" section which was absolutely atrocious. L would be considered slightly scary in within normal society me thinks.
Last note of thought... did anyone know that L was born in 1979?
Oh my (Death) God he is old!!! (I apologise to those who were born in 1979, but seriously you're nearly 30! You know I'm joking =P).
